Montserrat Monastery to Sant Jeroni Hike

Montserrat Monastery to the Top Sant Jeroni Guided Hiking Tour

With pickup and drop-off from Barcelona, please join us for a day of adventure!

One of our most popular hikes is from Montserrat Monastery to Sant Jeroni at 1237m elevation.

The start of the hike leaves from the sculpture of Abat Oliba who founded the Monistory in 1025.

The first part of the hike can be hard work where you follow steep stairs for around 25 min, passing the derelict chapel of Santa Anna to the left down another trail and also sign posts to the refuge Ermita de Sant Benet, to the right as you continue up the stairs.

You continue up the stairs ignoring these two alternative paths and you’ll eventually arrive to Pla dels Ocells which marks the half way point from Montserrat Monastery to Sant Jeroni Hike. Here the trail flattens and can be a great place to rest and enjoy the canopy shade of the trees.

The trail from here is relatively flat with a few parts where you have short sections of stairs. Keep an eye out for some famous peaks of Cavall Bernat 1,111 meters and Agulla de L'Elefante 1156m.

Continue hiking through the canopy of Pla dels Ocells for the next 30 min and you’ll come out of the forest to a junction with a view back down the forest through the gulley you’ve come from. They’ll be a turning to the left leading to the top of the funicular of Sant joan, which will take approximately 1 hr. An option when descending, but you’ll take the path to the right signposted Sant Jeroni. It’s another 25min to the top from here, passing Sant Jeroni chapel, until you reach the stairs to the top.

Once at the top you’ll have panoramic views of the Pyrenees and some of Catalonia’s most famous peaks and national parks.
